It’s a big day, folks– I’m entering my first photo contest. It’s always a little frightening to have something you created evaluated critically! But, constructive criticism is the best way to grow. One of my biggest fears as a photographer is that I’ll surround myself with people who say “Wow, your images are beautiful!” instead of pushing myself to ask for skilled and honest critique of my work. My former boss, a super-amazing photographer, is really great at this. He is always pushing himself to enter contests and to have his work evaluated by the photographers that he admires. I’m trying to follow in his footsteps!
In light of that, I entered a contest by American Photo Magazine. You can see the entries they’ve received so far here, including mine. Wish me luck!
